Yes we can...

Ok, so Osama Bin Laden is dead.

I understand that it is a huge step for the USA in their war on terrorism but when I saw the footage of the crowds celebrating outside the Whitehouse it scared me.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." -Martin Luther King, Jr

The Bedsit Diaries.

First blog of 2011! Ignore the fact that I never blog....

So since my last entry, I have moved out of my home in Lucan in order to be closer to college, and to avoid that whole mess of 2 buses in every morning, and then sleeping on someone's couch to avoid getting two buses home again. Much as I liked staying with other people it was beginning to take its toll. Add to that the amount of 8:30 am lectures we were presented with for 3rd year and BOOM! Edel needs a place to live!

So after a lot of looking around, I'm now set up in a lovely little bedsit in Rathmines, Dublin. For those of you who don't know what a bedsit is, its basically a room with a bed, table, kitchenette, toilet (if you're lucky) etc....its a whole house crammed into one small room. Not everyone's cup of tea, I grant you (mmmm tea...)but I adore it. I find it hard to leave sometimes, probably not a good thing, living on your own can be dangerous! I find myself sometimes avoiding people because I'm so used to my own company now. Ah well. As long as I don't develop a multiple personality disorder, I'm guaranteed a peacful, argument-free zone in my little room.

There are so many bedsits in this building, about 15 I think, and I have no idea how many people live here. Of the few I've come across, many of them seem to be fairly quirky. There is the opera singer upstairs from me who randomly bursts into arias at the top of her lungs, regardless of how early or late it is (luckily she has a lovely voice). I'll admit that once or twice I've joined in with her. I'm not sure whether or not she hears me when I do, if she does I hope she never meets me because I have the feeling that she would be incredibly freaked out to think that I sit down here, listening to her...creep!

There is also a strangely reclusive woman living downstairs. Many times I've seen her open her door, peek out, and then retreat as soon as she sees me. Odd.

Finally, there is the man who I saw through the window as I was coming in the gate. He shouted hello to me and I replied, all very normal, nothing unusual about the exchange at all... and yet, I haven't seen him since. Not that strange, you might say, he could have just been visiting someone, BUT anymore when I come in the gate I look up, and cannot seem to place the window he was sitting at. Two explanations: either I dreamed it up, or this house is haunted. Eep!

Never a dull moment.

In IKEA we trust

Flippin' 'eck!

I took a wee tripeen to IKEA today with my cousins Lisa and Mark and my auntie Bernie and OOOOOMG it's huge. Beyond huge. Gargantuan.

But what a temple of dreams! A veritable treasure trove of fabulosity! Every step leads you deeper into a world bursting with colourful, beautiful, desirable, necessary.....things! On a one way system which takes you on a whirlwind adventure through what your home could be, prepare to want EVERYTHING.
But it's not all fun and games, the majority of the staff are wonderful, except for that useless wench in the bedding department. To be avoided at all costs!

Anyway go to IKEA. It's a great way to exercise your willpower.

bleh!

Jesus the boredom

So my day consisted of:

Crawling through the library looking for a book which turned out to be useless, got carpet burn for nothing, grr.

Photocopying, endless boring expensive photocopying.

Reading. Hours and hours and HOURS of reading.

Boost. Yummy.

Crisps. Eaten 'discreetly' since no way in hell was I going outside to eat. Too Snowy.

I did write the beginning of an essay at least, however the facts are mostly made up so I'll probably have to start again.

Woohoo!
